Joy to the City (and surrounding area)

December 23, 2008 by David Eggleton

It's tempting to write far too much about Woburnite.com in this initial blog because I am extremely happy about its emergence. This is not your father's local business directory, so I could gush like one of the earliest oil wells! Regulating my excitement and resisting temptation, I'll limit my attention this time to the site's stated goal and intentions. They set Woburnite.com apart. In weeks and months to come, I'll have many more chances to expound, cheer, provoke and, perhaps, inspire. I hope you'll want to watch this space.

Goal of Woburnite.com: ...to build and sustain local community wealth

This goal is not the finish line type that describes an arrival or a moment of accomplishment when efforts can cease. With the inclusion of and sustain, and with a particular concept of wealth, this goal speaks of continuous, adaptive development. It envisions everyone flourishing despite changes we don't choose or even anticipate. Woburnite.com aims to arrange and establish a local dynamism of give and take that can increase and extend the security of the people of this area. To put it very simply, Woburnite.com aims to greatly reduce the contemporary helplessness that's pretty well hidden until an earthquake, extreme weather, a system failure or malice drives normal away.

Intentions of Woburnite.com: ...help people find/create niches in the local economy and encourage the support of local individuals and businesses who provide services or products

Woburnite.com will support, to the best of its ability, any and all enterprising people in progressively identifying and exploiting business opportunities that allow them to “meet those needs that match their unique talents, tap their higher motivations and that make a difference” locally.* It will proclaim and demonstrate to consumers the multiple benefits of transitioning to the products and services of local providers. As more and more people locally produce and provide something neighbors need and want, making those points will be easier and easier.
